ELGIBILITY
• Applicants must be enrolled in a college or university in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area
• Previous Sound Horizons winners are ineligible to enter
• Unpublished works involving one or more of the instruments listed below
MAXIMUM DURATION:
15 minutes
INSTRUMENTATION:
flute, clarinet, saxophone, violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, piano, guitar, percussion, solo voice (either soprano, alto, tenor or bass)
(Submissions may include electronic playback)
APPLICATION DEADLINE:
postmark July 31, 2008
PREPARATION OF ENTRY
• Include two sets of score and parts; one set should be unbound
• To have submitted materials returned, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope

FREE TO THE PUBLIC!!
JURY PROCESS:
• Judges select submitted works to be performed at Sound Horizons Salon Reading
• Criteria for judging includes originality, competence, and clarity
• At the conclusion of the performances, the Judges announce the winning composition
PRIZES:
• The winner is awarded the Sound Horizons Award of $500
• The winning composition is performed during New Music Works' 20008-09 concert season
