Thank you for supporting the musical legacy of our time.

NewMusicWorks’ Friends + Supporters continue to be the reason we do our best to present modern day and up-to-the-minute creations to the community of Santa Cruz. During these confusing and worrisome times we
hope that you are practicing social-distancing, catching up on house chores, and creative
communes with the muses.

The postponement of our concert, “The Music of Sound,” (from April 4 to November 14) was
unexpected but ultimately inevitable. We write to you from lock-down, in isolation and
infection-free.

We’re excited to announce a collaborative commission by NewMusicWorks and The Ariose
Singers for the 2020-21 season. On April 17, 2021 NewMusicWorks Ensemble and The Ariose
Singers will premiere a new work for chorus and chamber orchestra by Monterey native,
composer Carleton Macy. Carleton’s new piece will be based on the verse by the late
Robison Jeffers, one of America’s greatest modern-day poets, a pioneer of environmental
advocacy, and also a longtime resident of the Carmel coastline. As providence would have it,
Robinson Jeffers is Carleton Macy’s favorite poet!

We hope to present a second commission for the 2020-21 season, and our success will be
measured in no small part by the yield of this Spring’s fundraising campaign.

Your donations send huge ripples across our funding-pool. Individual donations make up
over 80% of NewMusicWorks’ annual income. Our deepest thanks for your support over the
last 41 years. Please continue to be well, and thank you for your 2020 support.

Sincerely,

Philip Collins, Artistic Director       Rico Saarni, Board Chair
